The Steam Engine Fireman plays a crucial role in the operation of Blaenavon Heritage Railway's steam locomotives. Key Tasks
- Prepare the locomotive for service, including lighting up, checking water levels, and ensuring adequate fuel supplies.
- Manage the fire, boiler pressure, and water level during operation to ensure safe and efficient running.
- Assist the driver with locomotive operations, including brake tests, shunting, and route preparation.
- Maintain communication with the driver and signal staff to ensure smooth train movements
- Dispose of the fire and clean down the locomotive at the end of the day.
