Role Purpose:
To support Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) community services by offering time, skills, and enthusiasm to support the Library@Home service by assisting with the selection of appropriate library stock (books and other media) for customers who are unable to visit the library in person due to age, disability, or caring responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Use the library’s resources to hand pick books and other library materials for customers of the Library@Home Service
- Use existing customer profiles to ensure stock choices are relevant and tailored to the specific requirements of each customer
- Issue stock to customers using the Civica Spydus online Library Management System
- Pack stock into bags ready for delivery
- Liaise with the Library@Home Co-Ordinator as required
Requirements:
- Commitment to attend agreed shifts reliably and punctually
- Willingness to follow all health and safety, and safeguarding guidance
- Ability to work in a public space with a diverse range of visitors
- Respect for confidentiality and sensitivity to customer needs
- Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction from library staff
- Undertake a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS check, if required
Skills & Experience (Essential/Desirable):
- Passion for reading and a broad knowledge of books and genres (Essential)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (Essential)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team (Desirable)
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail (Essential)
- Empathy and understanding of the needs of vulnerable or isolated individuals (Desirable)
