About the event

Join us for a day learning to survey and ID Dragonflies and Damselflies!

As part of the Healthy Planet, Healthy People Project, Torfaen County Borough Council are running a variety of wildlife survey training events. Monmouthshire County Dragonfly Recorder, Steve Preddy, will be leading this event.

You will learn about the different Dragonflies and Damselflies you can find locally, how to survey and identify them, their ecology, the Dragonfly Atlas Project and the Scarce Blue-Tailed Damselfly. You will then spend the afternoon practicing your new survey and ID skills at Garn Lakes Local Nature Reserve.

Order of events:

Please meet at Big Pit National Coal Museum, Kearsley room (located at the Pithead Baths) for a 10am start.

The indoor training will run from 10am-1:30pm, with a break for lunch.

We will then take a short 15 minute walk To Garn Lakes Local Nature Reserve to practice what we’ve learnt about identifying and surveying Dragonflies and Damselflies.

We will return to Big Pit National Coal Museum for questions and a summary at the end of the day. This event aims to finish by 4pm.
