Role Purpose

The Men’s Talk Facilitator supports the delivery of Torfaen Talks by creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for men to share experiences, discuss challenges, and connect with others. This volunteer role helps guide conversations, encourage participation, and foster a sense of community, wellbeing, and mutual respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group discussions in a supportive and non-judgmental way.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and confidential environment for participants.
  • Encourage participation while respecting individual comfort levels.
  • Support planning and preparation of session topics or activities as needed.
  • Listen actively and respond empathetically to participants’ contributions.
  • Uphold the values and guidelines of Torfaen Talks, including confidentiality and inclusivity.
  • Provide feedback to organisers on session dynamics, themes, and participant needs.
  • Assist with outreach or promotion of sessions to engage the local community.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to listen with empathy and without judgment.
  • Confidence in facilitating small group discussions.
  • Reliable and able to commit to regular volunteer sessions.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Passion for supporting men’s wellbeing and community connection.

Desirable

  • Previous experience facilitating group discussions, workshops, or peer support sessions.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of mental health, wellbeing, or community support practices.
  • Experience in volunteer or community roles.
