Volunteers need to be understanding, friendly, helpful, compassionate and professional in their approach towards the wide variety of people who visit our hospitals.
- Over 16 years of age (over 18ys for Mental Health areas)
- Reliable, dependable and punctual
- Great people skills, friendly and approachable
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Able to carry out role on own initiative and as part of a team
- Willingness to undertake appropriate training
- To provide regular visits to patients on identified wards, thereby reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness
- Provide meaningful activity with patients such as talking, reading, singing and walking using available resources
- To organise/support staff in organising and delivering group activity sessions and encourage patients and peers to participate
- Providing digital support such as supporting patients in using technology to contact the people that matter to them
- Make patients and visitors welcome and to direct them to the department or service they require
- To reassure anxious patients or relatives and help answer general (non-clinical) queries
