Volunteers can provide excellent support for people in the community settings. In this role the volunteer signposts pregnant women and girls in the community to information and resources, and attends the maternity service user group (BABI)
Duties to be agreed with Maternity Services ABUHB, ABUHB BABI group and the Patient Experience & Involvement Team.
- Over 18 years of age for community visiting roles where lone working
- Reliable, dependable and punctual
- Great people skills, friendly and approachable
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Able to carry out role on own initiative and as part of a team
- Willingness to undertake appropriate training
- Able to speak a language other than English, that is considered a first language by women and girls within the ABUHB catchment area
Optional/ preferred
- Has had a baby/babies at ABUHB since November 2020
- To represent the voices of women and girls (where English is not the first language) at the BABI group meetings
- To meet with pregnant women and girls within local communities to demonstrate online resources (ABUHB Healthier Together and Baby Buddy App)
- To be a point of contact for pregnant women and girls in the community (where English is not the first language) who have questions about maternity services. The volunteer will have training to answer frequently asked questions but will mainly signpost appropriately and will be provided with an I-Pad and email address.
- To reassure anxious and worried pregnant women and girls (where English is not the first language) and help answer general (non-clinical) queries as a befriender.
- To display posters promoting this volunteer project, within local areas so that pregnant women and girls can self-refer.
- To take care of the equipment provided as part of the project (I-Pad)
- To always adhere to the lone worker policy and buddy systems
- To adhere to Infection Control current policies and guidelines
