The Station Master oversees the day-to-day operation of the station, ensuring the safe, efficient, and welcoming running of train services and visitor activities. Acting as the central point of coordination between station staff, guards, drivers, and the public, the Station Master is responsible for maintaining safety standards, customer service, and the smooth flow of operations. This role combines leadership, communication, and a passion for heritage railway presentation.
Key Tasks
- Supervise all station activities, ensuring the safe and timely dispatch and arrival of trains.
- Coordinate with signalmen, guards, and drivers to manage train movements in accordance with the operating timetable.
- Ensure all passengers are boarded safely and platforms are kept clear and orderly.
- Provide leadership and support to booking office, platform, and retail volunteers.
- Handle customer enquiries and promote a friendly, informative, and engaging visitor experience
- Maintain accurate records such as train logs, incident reports, and daily operations sheets.
- Oversee the appearance and cleanliness of the station, ensuring it reflects the heritage image of railway
- Manage crowd control and safety procedures during busy events and special services.
- Support new volunteers by providing guidance, mentoring, and induction to station operations
- Represent Blaenavon Heritage Railway professionally to the public and external visitors.
