Join us for a relaxed spring walk through Graig Fawr woodland looking out for ancient woodland indicators and invasive species.
Spring Woodland Walk: Coed Meyric Moel
Join Torfaen’s Local Places for Nature Delivery Officer for a gentle, beginner‑friendly woodland walk at Graig Fawr. We’ll explore different parts of the woodland in spring and identify native woodland plants, including spring wildflowers and ancient woodland indicator species. We’ll also look at how invasive/non‑native plants and disturbance can reduce woodland diversity over time — and talk about how we can work together to protect and enhance the woodland.
This walk is designed for beginners (and anyone who simply loves a walk in the woods). It’s not about memorising dozens of species — it’s about learning how to notice woodland and leaving with a handful of things you feel confident recognising.
We’ll also have Cariad Coed ID guides to share, including:
- Getting to know trees
- Woodland indicator flowers
- Invasive and non‑native species
Meeting / Parking:
We’ll meet at 10:00 at the Thornhill Community Centre, Leadon Ct, Cwmbran then walk together from there.
What to bring / wear:
- Sturdy footwear (paths may be uneven, wet or muddy in places)
- Weather‑appropriate clothing
- Water / snacks
Accessibility & safety:
Uneven ground, roots and muddy sections are possible. We’ll keep together, take our time, and make regular stops.
