The Painting & Decoration Volunteer helps preserve and enhance the heritage appearance of Blaenavon Heritage Railway’s buildings, rolling stock, and facilities. This role ensures that station buildings, locomotives, carriages, and other structures are maintained to a high visual and historical standard, contributing to a welcoming and authentic experience for visitors.
Key Tasks
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and priming. Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes to station buildings, carriages, locomotives, and signage.
- Carry out minor repair work in preparation for decoration, such as filling cracks, patching woodwork, or rust treatment.
- Assist with heritage colour matching and application techniques to preserve historical authenticity. Maintain painting tools, brushes, and equipment in good condition.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, following health and safety procedures and using appropriate PPE.
- Work collaboratively with other departments, such as Engineering, Carriage & Wagon, and Groundworks, to plan and coordinate projects.
- Support larger restoration or renovation projects as required.
- Keep work areas tidy and organised during and after painting tasks.
- Help train and support new volunteers in painting and decorating techniques.
