Hello Marauders! Monday 7th July we are going to follow one of the 'Weatherman Walking' routes on a 4-mile circular stroll along the Fourteen Locks canal in Rogerstone, Newport. It’s a little different from our previous walks. The route starts from the canal visitor centre and will follow the towpath along the canal where we'll walk down past one of the steepest series of locks in the UK before passing under the M4 and on up to Ridgeway to experience the 'Little Switzerland' viewpoint. Here, after a short coffee stop, we'll venture through the Allt-Yr-Yn woodland nature reserve and up the gentle slope to Wern Ddu woods before passing through Tredegar Park golf club and, finally, past the Ynysfro reservoirs to finish back at the visitor centre. This is an easier level 5/6 walk on our walk scale which I'm sure will suit everyone's abilities. A fair bit of walking with lots to see and talk about along the way. The what3words walk start point is as follows - https://what3words.com/likes.unite.airports Car parking is available at the venue (£3 for 5 hours) or you could be cheeky and park in a side street for free (Brunel Avenue, postcode NP10 0DN) A detailed description of the route can be seen by opening the link below - https://downloads.bbc.co.uk/.../Fourteen-Locks-Walk.pdf
