To support Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) community services by offering time, skills and enthusiasm to support library users developing their digital skills and confidence by offering friendly, informal assistance during IT drop-in sessions. Helping bridge the digital divide by empowering individuals to use technology for every day tasks.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Greet and assist visitors attending IT drop-in sessions in a welcoming and supportive manner
  • Offer one-to-one help with everyday digital tasks
  • Assist individuals in navigating email and internet browsers
  • Support with accessing online services such as government portals and job applications
  • Promote the use of tablets, laptops, and smartphones confidently
  • Help with the use of library computers and exploring digital library resources
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support and report technical issues to library staff
  • Encourage users to build digital confidence and independence
  • Always maintain a patient, respectful, and non-judgmental attitude
  • Record attendance at sessions and gather feedback when requested by library staff
  • Awareness of other support available within the library and signposting where appropriate

Requirements: 

  • Confident in the use of common digital devices and software (e.g., email, internet browsers, apps)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and supportively with people of all skill levels
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward learning
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to follow library policies, including safeguarding and data protection

Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, or customer service (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with accessibility tools or assistive technology (Desirable)
  • Awareness of health, safety, and safeguarding principles (Essential)
