Do you have a couple of hours a week to help families and children in Torfaen and want to make a difference?
Torfaen Early Years is currently looking for volunteers aged 16+ to support their Pop in and Play sessions, Swap Don't Shop community events and the Torfaen Family Information Service team.
What's involved?
- Working as part of an enthusiastic, welcoming, Early Years team to provide suitable play-based activities for children and families and to help children learn and develop through play, while ensuring they are safe, happy and supported.
- Supporting the popular Swap Don't Shop events at the Integrated Children's Centres either after school or during the school holidays.
- Support the Family Information Service, signposting families to services available including early years entitlement, help with childcare costs and other services available, share FIS materials, such as leaflets, posters, and digital resources, within Early Years activities.
- Support sessions from Monday to Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm, during term time and summer holidays.
- Working closely with your Flying Start Childcare Engagement officer.
- Meeting regularly with the Family Information Service Team Leader to stay up to date with new information, changes to services, ensuring families receive accurate and up‑to‑date guidance.
Additional Benefits:
- Where possible, volunteers will be placed at venues close to their home address.
- Volunteers will be provided with a Flying Start T-shirt, which must be worn during sessions.
- Volunteers may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses. (A travel expenses claim form will be provided for completion.)
- Volunteers will be supported to complete training and have access to many training opportunities.
- Volunteers will be eligible to be provided with a reference of their volunteer experience to support them in future employment and study.
- Volunteers will receive certificates of volunteering hours.
- A supportive and friendly environment where you can have fun, enjoy yourself and feel good knowing you are helping families and their children.
- Learn Welsh (desirable)
- DBS Check (required)
- Driving Licence or willingness to travel by public transport to venues.
