The Groundworks & Landscaping Volunteer helps maintain and improve the railway’s outdoor environment, including station areas, trackside, and heritage grounds. This role ensures the railway remains safe, attractive, and welcoming for visitors while preserving the historic character of the site. Volunteers contribute to both practical maintenance and long-term landscaping projects.
Key Tasks
- Carry out general landscaping, planting, and gardening around stations, platforms, and trackside areas. Maintain pathways, soil, embankments, and public areas to ensure safety and accessibility.
- Assist with drainage, civil, and groundworks projects, including digging, levelling, and preparation of planting areas.
- Support the construction and maintenance of fencing, benches, signage, and other outdoor infrastructure.
- Operate hand tools and light machinery safely under supervision.
- Remove litter, debris, and vegetation encroaching on track and public areas.
- Work in accordance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support special projects, events, or seasonal displays as required.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Operations and Engineering, on site improvements.
- Help train and mentor new volunteers in groundworks and landscaping tasks.
