Following on from the very well-attended "Harmonica morning" session in January and then our four week "Learn the Harmonica" course in March (which saw the room filled) comes the next harmonica course at Cwmbran library. This course is across all four Thursday mornings in June (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th), 10am - midday. In a lovely venue which is a popular learning hub, this user-friendly course is for anyone who wishes to learn to play the harmonica, build confidence, learn a useful new skill, socialize and make friends. We have a private, good sized room with heating and natural light. It is in a central location with nearby shops, cafes, pubs and a multiplex cinema. The bus station is about 50 metres from the building. Taxis and the train station are just a couple of minutes’ walk from the venue. There is ample free car parking all around the shopping centre. The library has a lift, toilets and is easily accessible. VENUE – Cwmbran Library, Room C, First Floor, Gwent House, Gwent Square, Cwmbran Shopping Centre. NP44 1XQ. As previously, this will be a mixed ability level course for over 18s only. The full course fee is £60 yet if you pre-book it's £48. Reserve your place by paying a £10 non-returnable deposit. The room holds a maximum of 28 learners. Full payment can be made via BACS or in cash by prior agreement. Unfortunately, I cannot accept payment by cheques, voucher nor cards for this course. Bring along your own diatonic harmonica in the key of C (also known as a Blues Harp, the sort you've seen played by John Lennon, Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan), widely available online or at music shops. Easily understood harmonica TAB will be supplied to all attendees (just following numbers). Learn by reading this TAB, playing, listening, singing, discussion, jamming and copying your tutor. It's also a social occasion. Blues, Folk, Country, Rock, singalongs. Enjoy! You will also learn useful playing techniques including use of effective breathing, hand vibrato, wah-wahs, throat vibrato, forming chords and single notes, octave splits, tongue-blocking, chugging, playing rhythm harmonica, note bending, playing the Blues, playing Folk and Country, playing Rock and how to create a good, musical tone. Your teacher Aidan Sheehan is the outreach programme officer for “HARMONICA UK” (a charitable organisation formed in 1936 which encourages the use of harmonicas in education, for health, wellbeing, confidence-building and providing people with new opportunities for a better quality via musical performance). He is a qualified teacher, a member of the Musicians Union and also a professional musical performer.
