Children's Craft Volunteer - Cwmbran Library
To support Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) community services by offering time, skills, and enthusiasm to assist with the delivery of children’s craft activities as part of an ongoing programme of seasonal story and craft sessions at Cwmbran Library. By assisting with these sessions, you will help to support and promote a love of books, reading and creativity amongst attendees.
Key Responsibilities
- Help to set up and tidy away craft materials before and after sessions
- Assist library staff in delivering craft activities for children Engage positively with children and families to create a warm, welcoming and inspiring atmosphere
- Support participants with guidance and encouragement during craft sessions
- Promote enjoyment of reading and creativity through interaction and encouragement
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants
- Refer any concerns or issues to library staff, especially around safeguarding
- Follow all Health and Safety procedures Requirements Minimum age 18+ for some groups depending on group content or participant age
- Able to commit to agreed volunteer sessions and notify staff of any changes Willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if working with children or vulnerable adults Completion of required training (e.g. safeguarding, library induction)
Skills & Experience (Desirable/Essential)
- Creative, with a genuine interest in arts and crafts (Essential)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)
- Friendly, approachable, and reliable nature (Essential)
- Ability to work proactively and independently(Desirable)
- Have a good level of literacy and a wide interest in reading (Desirable)
- To be able to engage children in craft activities through positivity and enthusiasm (Essential)
- Awareness of health, safety, and safeguarding principles (Essential)
