Role Purpose
The Befriending Volunteer at Meet and Eat, Bethlehem Chapel plays a key role in reducing social isolation and promoting wellbeing within the local community. The role involves building friendly, supportive relationships with attendees, helping them feel welcomed, valued, and connected through regular social interaction and shared activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, consistent companionship to individuals attending Meet and Eat.
- Listen, chat, and offer support while respecting confidentiality and boundaries.
- Encourage participation in activities and mealtimes to promote social connection.
- Work alongside staff and volunteers to create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
- Report any concerns about wellbeing or safeguarding to the appropriate staff member.
Skills & Experience
- Friendly, patient, and approachable with good listening skills.
- Able to support people in a caring, non-judgmental way.
- Awareness of boundaries, confidentiality, and safeguarding issues.
- Reliable and committed to supporting the community.
Experience in befriending, volunteering, or community work is desirable but not essential.
