Role Purpose
The Barista Volunteer supports day-to-day operations at Grounded by helping serve customers and create a welcoming, inclusive space for the community. This role helps ensure visitors feel comfortable, valued and supported while visiting the café. It is ideal for someone friendly, reliable and people-focused who enjoys working in a café or community space environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and serving of drinks and light refreshments (as trained).
- Provide friendly, welcoming customer service to all visitors.
- Help maintain a clean, safe and organised café environment.
- Support opening, closing or general shift tasks where required.
- Help create a warm, inclusive and community-focused atmosphere.
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety and café procedures (training provided).
- Support team members and contribute to a positive working environment.
- Help promote Grounded as a safe, welcoming community space.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Friendly, approachable and people-focused.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable and able to commit to agreed volunteer shifts.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Understanding of the importance of inclusion and respectful customer service.
Desirable
- Previous café, hospitality or customer service experience.
- Basic knowledge of coffee preparation or food handling (not essential – training can be provided).
- Experience volunteering or working in community spaces.
- Confidence working in a busy environment.
