School of Hard knocks uses sport, interactive workshops and one to one mentoring to support people to realise their potential. Our programme is based in established psychological theory, and uses empathy and non-judgemental tailored support as a methodology to create and sustain behaviour change. We are open to everyone and offer our services to people who are least likely to access the support they need to thrive in life.
We believe sport is a fantastic way to physically represent the challenges and opportunities people are faced with. The nature of the team, often with differing levels of experience, abilities and skill sets coming together to support each other to achieve a common purpose is a powerful metaphor and a decent strategy, we believe for life. Off the pitch, the interactive workshops tackle some of the most common social challenges including managing change and anxiety, understanding our emotional responses, managing anger, healthy relationships as well as practical life skills like managing money, nutrition and employability skills.
Our staff team are invested in helping people and have each faced their own challenges in life. The coaches, psychologists and facilitators each share their own lived experiences and model their own vulnerabilities, alongside their strengths, in a way that builds trust and invites others to do the same.
