Supporting Carers training is presently available free of charge for all health, social care, colleges, third sector and emergency services across Gwent.
The training is a 2.5hour session and can currently be delivered face to face or through Microsoft Teams virtual platform. Throughout the training there are regular opportunities for question and answers and for group reflections and discussion. Prior to the training all attendees will be given instructions and a persona for one of the activities.
The key aims of the training are to:
- Raise awareness of who unpaid carers are
- Increase the identification of unpaid carers
- Enable you to proactively engage with unpaid carers
- Improve access to information and support that is available for unpaid carers
We do this by exploring and discussing the following topics:
- Who carers are, what types of roles they undertake, why people are carers, the barriers carers face and the effects and the benefits of caring.
- We also discuss ways to support carers, what they are entitled to and reflect how your service currently supports carers and if there are opportunities for additional IAA.
Upon completion of the training resources will be emailed to the participants which include: a printable version of the training, a digital badge, carer friendly posters for signposting and the option to be added to the Gwent Carers Hub mailing list (if you are not already). In addition to this a certificate of attendance will be issued to each attendee that can be used for PPD and as evidence for your Carer Friendly accreditation. Carer Friendly pin badges are also available upon request.
