Role Purpose
The Messy Play Group Lead is responsible for planning and delivering fun, creative, and engaging messy play sessions for children and their carers. The role supports early learning, sensory development, and social interaction in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment, encouraging families to play, explore, and connect.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate messy play activities that encourage creativity and sensory exploration.
- Set up and clear away activities, ensuring the space is clean, safe, and well organised.
- Follow health and safety procedures, including food hygiene and risk assessments where relevant.
- Create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere for children, parents, and carers.
- Support positive interaction between children and carers during sessions.
- Work alongside volunteers or staff to ensure sessions run smoothly.
- Report any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns in line with policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Experience working with children and families in a play, childcare, or community setting (desirable).
- Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic, with a creative approach to play.
- Awareness of safeguarding, health and safety, and boundaries when working with children.
- Ability to engage both children and adults in a positive, inclusive way.
- Reliable and organised, with a commitment to supporting families in the community.
