Early Years Torfaen is currently looking for volunteers aged 16+ to support our pop in and play sessions 2026. Your role will entail working as part of a team to provide suitable play-based activities for children and families. The role focuses on helping children learn and develop through play, while ensuring they are safe, happy, and supported. Volunteers will contribute their time and skills to help ensure the service reflects the needs and priorities of families. Volunteers will: Support the Engagement Officer to plan, organise, and deliver play activities. · Engage with parents, carers, and members of the public in a polite and professional manner. · Work closely with the Early Years Service to provide rich and varied play environments. · Help set up and pack away play provision and equipment. · Ensure venues and equipment are respected at all times. · Act as a positive role model for children and families. · To actively promote the Family Information Service, signposting families to services available including early years entitlement, help with childcare costs and other services available. · Share FIS materials, such as leaflets, posters, and digital resources, within Early Years activities. · Assist in gathering feedback from families about their information needs to help improve future service promotion and outreach. · Assist in maintaining up‑to‑date community information by feeding back changes to local groups, activities, or services discovered while volunteering. Volunteers can support sessions Monday to Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm, during term time and summer holidays. · Support is primarily for drop-in sessions. · Where possible, volunteers will be placed at venues close to their home address. · Volunteers may need access to transport to travel to different areas across Torfaen. · Meet regularly with the Family Information Service Team Leader to stay up to date with new information, changes to services, ensuring families receive accurate and up‑to‑date guidance.
Volunteers will be provided with: · A Flying Start T-shirt, which must be worn during sessions. Volunteers will need to provide: · Waterproof outdoor clothing for Forest School sessions. · A notebook and pen for recording important information. · FIS Marketing materials. Volunteers may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses. A travel expenses claim form will be provided for completion.
•All volunteers will be supported to complete training •All volunteers will be eligible to be provided with a reference of their playscheme experience to support them in future employment and study. •All volunteers will receive certificates of volunteering hours.
